Mission accomplished: a triumphant Ukip has achieved its goals and may as well pack up shop. The hard-right populist party is – in the words of its former leadership frontrunner Steven Woolfe – “in a death spiral”. Fresh from being literally hospitalised by the party’s internal divisions, Woolfe has marched out of this increasingly disorderly rabble. The party has been deprived of its toxic but effective figurehead, Nigel Farage, cheap jordans online, whose new pet project is spinning for Donald Trump; and with no clear unifying mission or leader, the party’s internal factions are abandoning any semblance of discipline. The party always represented a mishmash: some are rightwing libertarians, others anti-immigration national conservatives, jordans for cheap, others Tories-in-exile, others interested in forging a working-class rightwing populism. They are squabbling housemates wondering if they really belong under the same roof.
But hey, cheap jordans, a flailing Ukip shouldn’t mourn. It helped engineer the EU referendum in concert with Tory backbenchers, and now its founding purpose has been achieved. But more importantly, the Conservative party has been Ukip-ised. Farage praised Theresa May’s “remarkable speech”, crowing that his party had “changed the centre of gravity of British politics. Virtually everything she said in that speech are things that I’ve said to the Ukip conference over the course of the last five or six years”. He is right to brag. A party that won only one parliamentary seat last year has effectively captured the commanding heights of the Tory party.
We now have a Conservative government pursuing a harsh and chaotic Brexit; demonising its critics as unpatriotic internal enemies; pursuing inflammatory anti-immigration ruses, such as floating the idea of drawing up lists of foreign workers; and pledging to expand selection in schools. If Ukip is dead, long live Ukip.

Steven Woolfe quits Ukip
Ukip could still live on in some form, of course. It could be the option on the ballot paper for those who want to hold May’s feet to the fire: that’s why she’s been so keen to stress that Brexit means Brexit. Under the previous leadership, Labour made a miscalculation in believing that Ukip’s rise represented a fracturing of the right that would benefit them. In the end, it was Labour’s traditional coalition that fractured most lethally: in the direction of the SNP,cheap retro jordans, Greens and Ukip.
Ukip’s turmoil certainly does underline the necessity for Labour to present a clear, cheap jordans free shipping, coherent, inspiring vision. May’s alarmingly high poll rating is only partly explained by Labour’s decline: erstwhile Ukip voters flocking to the Tories is another reason. There are working-class Ukip voters who tell you they’d never vote Tory; May’s liberal use of “working class” is an attempt to address that. A significant chunk of working-class Britain feels alienated from Labour. That has to be addressed with a clear vision and a message communicated in language that resonates with people outside the political bubble. These are febrile times and Labour has an opportunity. If the party blows it, it won’t only be the Tories who are Ukip-ised – it will be a fate that befalls the whole country.

. Donald Trump’s powerful message of hope, opportunity and empowerment for minority communities threatens to resonate with Hillary’s base, and that’s why she’s lashing out. 9.03pm BST Hillary Clinton can add the endorsement of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce to her pile of endorsements from LGBTQ-oriented organizations, with business association’s CEO declaring in a statement this afternoon that LGBTQ Americans have “come too far to lose [their] seat at the table”. 8.38pm BST The Trump campaign debuted its iPhone application this morning to relatively little fanfare - its release was accompanied by an email, but no tweets from the candidate himself - but privacy experts in the tech sphere are already casting a wary eye at the “America First” app as a potentially serious security risk for its users. Last year was the year when hubris struck hedge-fund managers. Activist investor Bill Ackman swallowed his pride after his firm, jordans for cheap, Pershing Square Capital, had its worst year in history. “It certainly does a good job reinforcing the humility-side of the equation that is necessary for long-term investment performance,” he wrote in a mea culpa to his investors. Third Point’s Dan Loeb called the choppy market that plagued these firms for much of the year a “hedge fund killing field.” As a result, some hedge funds closed their doors entirely, real cheap jordans retro, a handful of managers retired to greener pastures, and roughly half of all hedge funds lost money for investors. That didn’t stop the kings of the .01 percent from making a killing, however. Despite their dismal returns last year, cheap jordans online, the top-earning hedge-fund managers collectively earned close to $13 billion, according to Institutional Investor’s Alpha magazine’s annual ranking?a 10 percent increase from a year earlier. Hedge-fund managers are often immune from the shorter-term market swings that their investors have to weather, since many of them skim fixed fees off the top of the total amount of assets they have under management. On top of that, they earn bonuses based on their performance. This means that even if their funds do poorly, they are still making money. If they do well, they’re making much more. For the second year in a row, Chicago billionaire bachelor and head of Citadel Ken Griffin topped the list, earning $1.7 billion in 2015, as did Renaissance Technologies’ James Simons. Renaissance’s main fund gained about 16 percent last year. Griffin’s paycheck did not come out of nowhere; Citadel’s hallmark funds returned 14.3 percent last year. And he spent as if those returns would never end. After settling one of the most high-profile and expensive divorce cases out of court last fall, Griffin reportedly went on a $300 million property-buying blitz, laying down $200 million for one New York City triplex alone. Somewhere in the middle of it all a lawyer?oddly, named Michael Lewis?who had devised the successful legal strategy for going after Big Tobacco, helped file a class-action suit on behalf of investors against the 13 public U.S. stock exchanges, real cheap jordans retro, accusing them of, among other things, cheating ordinary investors by selling special access to high-frequency traders. One big bank, Bank of America, shuttered its high-frequency-trading operation, and two others, cheap jordans, Citigroup and Wells Fargo, closed their dark pools. Norway’s sovereign-wealth fund, the world’s largest, announced that it would do what it needed to avoid high-frequency traders. One enterprising U.S. brokerage firm, Interactive Brokers, announced that, unlike its competitors, it did not sell retail stock-market orders to high-frequency traders, and even installed a button that enabled investors to route their orders directly to IEX, a new alternative stock exchange opened in October 2013 by Brad Katsuyama and his team, which uses technology to block predatory high-frequency traders from getting the millisecond advantages they need. One fund manager calculated that trading on U.S. stock exchanges other than IEX amounted to a $240 million tax a year on his fund. ? Simon Belcher/Alamy. All of a sudden the structure of the U.S. stock market, which had been aped by other markets, seemed to implicate more than just the market for U.S. stocks. In the past 11 months, the U.S. stock market has been as chaotic as a Cambodian construction site. At times the noise has sounded like preparations for the demolition of a hazardous building. At other times it has sounded like a desperate bid by a slumlord to gussy the place up to distract inspectors. Eddie McGuire continues to enjoys the privilege and protection that is often afforded to white, cheap air jordans, wealthy and well-connected men.
Seriously, how many chances does Eddie McGuire get? He hasn’t shown much inclination to learn from past mistakes, including comments about Indigenous AFL player Adam Goodes. His time as CEO of Channel Nine was panned and short-lived,cheap air jordan shoes, but long enough to “bone” Jessica Rowe and take Jana Wendt off air. The NSW Parliament officially declared him a boofhead, for goodness sakes.
And now McGuire has stupidly threatened to lead a pack of men to “bomb” and drown a female journalist, Caroline Wilson, whose opinions and tough questioning style McGuire apparently doesn’t like.
Australian election 2016: Aboriginal trauma and suffering can't be denied, says Turnbull, handing back Kenbi land – politics live

Initially McGuire shrugged his comments off as a joke.
The prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, made the point last year that not all disrespect for women ends in violence, but all violence against women begins with disrespect.

Eddie McGuire’s comments about ‘drowning’ journalist Caroline Wilson
Turnbull was quick to condemn Sheikh Shady Alsuleiman last week for his violent language about homosexuals and women. I agree with Turnbull and welcome his statement.
Last night on Q&A, Turnbull said he would stand up for any Australian who was being denigrated on the basis of sexual orientation, religion or gender. But our feminist PM hasn’t yet seen fit to call out Eddie McGuire.
Our non-feminist foreign minister, Julie Bishop, cheap retro jordans, gave McGuire a pass and excused him for just joking around.
Bill Shorten didn’t think the joke was funny. Neither did Tanya Plibersek nor Penny Wong, both making clear statements about its inappropriateness and violent imagery.
Most significantly, Caroline Wilson made clear the McGuire’s comments were not funny, but offensive and sexist.
Turnbull and Bishop should call out Eddie McGuire.
Chastising McGuire and speaking up against violent imagery against women would be 100% in line with the federal government’s anti-domestic violence advertising campaign. These ads seek to influence the influencers, to make them aware of how their excuses of “boys will be boys” and “he’s just kidding around” allow disrespect against women to grow and violence against women to be normalised.
McGuire is an influencer. He reaches a lot more people than Alsulieman does. Young men in particular listen to McGuire. Thanks to the AFL, radio, cheap jordan shoes, television and commercial sponsors, he has a massive reach to mainstream Australia.
McGuire obviously also has massive sway within the AFL. The league’s CEO Gillon McLachlan popped up on TV to tell the nation that Eddie had apologised, that was sufficient, real cheap jordans retro, and really, a few blokes joking around about drowning a woman is really all our collective fault.
Can't you take a joke, love? Why the 'banter' isn't funny any more | Brigid Delaney

No, Gillon, it’s not. It’s the fault of those men who said it, and those people who excuse it.
And frankly, many Australians didn’t agree with McLachlan that McGuire’s non-apology was sufficient. McGuire initially sought to blame Wilson and downplay the incident. From Rosie Batty to Tracey Spicer to Wilson herself and to women – and men – all over social media, McLachlan and McGuire were told clearly that they just weren’t getting it. On his third attempt, McGuire finally apologised on Monday evening and pledged to donate money to support victims of domestic violence.
Where Turnbull and McLachlan failed, the community – women and men – stepped into the breach and showed leadership.
But here’s a dismal prediction: by next week, all will have returned to normal. McGuire will still be on air. He will have faced no actual consequences. An opportunity for a real learning moment will have passed. And the next time some other boofhead wants to make a sexually denigrating comment or a violent threat against a woman, he won’t have much reason to think twice. The cycle, depressingly, continues.

With an eye on hot start-ups with rapidly expanding valuations, mutual funds in recent years turned their attention away from public companies and began pouring millions into private tech companies. But now, things are starting to cool off: a report from The Wall Street Journal says mutual funds are backing away from start-ups, slashing the value of investments they’ve made in highly valuable late-stage and growth-stage upstarts. In recent months, things have started slowing down in Silicon Valley. Billion-dollar “unicorn” start-ups?private tech companies so called for the supposed rarity of their bloated valuations?have found those valuations slashed by investors. Tech companies aren’t going public, cheap retro jordans, and when they are, they’re not treated kindly by public markets. Even existing public tech stalwarts like LinkedIn have had their valuations chopped nearly in half on the stock market. In lieu of making lists of hot, rising start-ups,cheap jordans free shipping, analytics firm CB Insights has published a Downround Tracker, a list of more than 55 companies that have raised or exited in down rounds?meaning the company’s sale value or new valuation is less than it was worth to investors before. Venture-capital firm First Round Capital this week published a quarterly letter to its limited partners, warning that the current climate of V.C. funding and valuation pullback is no "temporary blip.” The firm,www.yourcellan.com, which has backed companies like Uber and Square, expects that some of its portfolio companies will be marked down, “with many potentially being written off entirely.” Mutual funds, which have pumped money into late-stage start-ups, have apparently felt the chill of the downturn too: according to the Journal, mutual funds have been downgrading their investments in tech start-ups. Thirteen “unicorns” that Fidelity and Wellington’s funds have invested in have been marked down by at least 5 percent so far this year. These unicorns’ valuations are “at an average of 28% below their original purchase price,”

As one could have predicted, the bombshell release of Beyoncé’s new visual album Lemonade over the weekend has already inspired countless think pieces, memes, and general social-media freakout. Naturally, the men of late night had to address this somehow, but how does one even begin to unpack the latest Beyoncé bonanza for the late-night audience? Some went the parody route, and some made a sincere effort to explain it. (Predictably, cheap air jordan shoes, Stephen Colbert did both on The Late Show for good measure.)
“How do you keep something this big a secret?” Colbert asked. “I think Beyoncé should be running the C.I.A.” After a couple minutes sharing his own stories of love and betrayal, Colbert launched into an explanation: “This album is about so much more than Beyoncé’s marriage. It makes powerful statements about women being disrespected?especially black women. And I know you’ve been waiting for a white man to explain it to you. The waiting is over.” In a segment titled “Stephen Colbert White-Mansplains,cheap air jordans,” Colbert broke down some points of potential confusion?for instance, “Becky” is not actually a woman named Becky. Who knew? And when Beyoncé drives a monster truck over a row of parked cars? “That is like how white men wish we could drive a monster truck over parked cars. Some things are universal.”
He might not have gotten to drive a monster truck, but Colbert couldn’t resist making a brief Lemonade parody, wherein he wore a lot of yellow, smashed some things with a bat, and enjoyed a refreshing lemon.
For his part, jordans for cheap, Jimmy Kimmel also went the explanation route on Jimmy Kimmel Live!?by way of emojis. For those who don’t quite understand who Rachel Roy is, or why Beyoncé’s fans started harassing her, Kimmel broke it down with the charmingly illustrated slide show?and even managed to slip in a reference to Amy Schumer’s “Milk Milk Lemonade” in the process.
And of course, whenever Beyoncé shares a new project, there are anchors across the country struggling to cover it. And where there are news anchors struggling to cover something, there’s Trevor Noah to recap and critique their struggles on The Daily Show, as he did in his own Lemonade-themed segment. “Beyoncé is the news,” Noah said. “And the best part of Beyoncé is realizing that despite 15 years of talking about her, news anchors remain unready for her jelly.” Despite all of the complex political themes at play, Noah pointed out the media’s (and some fans’) focus tends to gravitate toward the scandalous narrative of infidelity. But she addresses so many other, more universally important topics?like fire safety!
And then there was The Late Late Show, where James Corden made an almost four-minute parody with surprising production value that meanders from explaining the struggles of writing late-night monologues in his best “sultry” voice to explaining his distaste for Donald Trump jokes to smashing TVs with a bat in a wig. Does this mean we’ll see Beyoncé singing “Sorry” on Carpool Karaoke soon? Guess only time will tell.

Ancient Rome which are easy to understand and generally identify with when making choices. While the lore is clear and accessible there’s still plenty to read and learn as you progress through the game. Characters are compelling, too, and even the rank and file soldiers you encounter seem fleshed out and realistic. Decisions become more complex as you learn more about the world you inhabit with some interesting changes to how dialogue works. Tyranny is built on the same engine as Pillars of Eternity with a number of significant changes. Tyranny isn’t strictly class-based, the skills you choose to use shape how your character develops and you’re never locked out of how you’d like to play. If you use spells your character will become a better spellcaster, if you then decide you’d rather be punching people in the face, cheap jordans online, your character will develop melee skills. The protagonist will still level up and has certain attributes that make them better at performing some skills, but you can change attributes as you level and the more you use your skills the more you level up. This is contrary to Pillars of Eternity where killing monsters didn’t necessarily give you XP unless you collected glossary entries or were completing a quest. It also makes the player experiment more and use more abilities to skill up. In many ways, Donald Trump’s bid for the White House was good to Megyn Kelly. It catapulted her from a star within the world of Fox News to a veritable household name across the country. From the first Republican primary debate, when she famously tussled with the president-elect over what he said was an unfair question about his treatment of women, Kelly has been part of the same news cycle she is tasked with covering each night. In the wake of the sexual harassment allegations against her old boss, Roger Ailes, Kelly has also earned great praise for speaking out on behalf of victims of sexual harassment and assault on her prime-time show. She positively eviscerated Newt Gingrich last month when he told her she was “fascinated by sex” for covering the sexual-assault allegations made against Trump. She chastised Kellyanne Conway for diminishing the voraciousness of Trump’s history of sexist comments. She whacked back at a guest on her show who questioned why victims of sexual assault wouldn’t immediately come forward. The spotlight on Kelly earned her a permanent spot on headlines, a Vanity Fair cover, and praise as an unlikely feminist icon in a decidedly topsy-turvy election season. It just so happened that this Year of Kelly occurred just as her contract at Fox News was ticking down, set to expire next year. As her star exploded, so, too, cheap real jordans, did the number of networks who were eyeing her. And Kelly didn’t shy away from this. A glamorous crowd turned out for Miu Miu’s Fashion Week party at the newly-reopened [Diamond Horseshoe](in the Paramount Hotel, cheap jordans.
Sarah Paulson, Melonie Diaz, Hailee Steinfeld, Bella Thorne, Michelle Harper, Crystal Renn, and Zoe Kazan and Paul Dano were just a few of those who took in director So Yong Kim’s short film, Spark and Light, starring Riley Keough, and a performance by Icelandic electronic band Múm, who did the soundtrack.
There was a lot of great fashion at the party, and some guests got to talking about the more idiosyncratic pieces hanging in their closets. Solange Knowles(who’s Instagram account shows off her bold style) says she has one dress in particular that has a certain spirit. “I’ve had it, literally, since I was 15,” she told VF Daily. “I got married not too long after 15, so it’s actually my reception dress,” Solange added, laughing. “It’s a BCBG,cheap air jordans, really beautiful, simple, silk white dress with small blue flowers, and for whatever reason, it makes me feel so flirty and pretty, and it sort of exudes that spirit of youth, cheap jordans for sale,” she said. “I’ll probably be, like, 65, still trying to get my old ass into it and steal that moment. But I love it.”
“I have a coat that has a bunch of those little Russian dolls on it,”Ireland Baldwin said. “It’s, like, a big, wool, funny, stiff-armed coat, and it has the dolls lying across all over, and on the sleeves, the dolls hang off the sleeves.” Baldwin got it at a vintage shop. “I just think it’s the greatest thing ever,” she added.
For Bates Motel star Nicola Peltz, it’s a pair of pink socks. “I have a pair of fuzzy socks that I sleep in almost every night—of course, after I wash them!” she said. “They’re so cute. They have little dogs on them, on the toe.”
Fashion week meme Zosia Mamet and boyfriend __Evan Jonigkeit__wandered over, and we asked the Girls star what item in her closet she wishes she could turn into home décor. Mamet immediately had something in mind: “I have a bunch of jeans that Evan hates, that I would probably make into a couch.” When we asked her to specify which pair of jeans, the couple answered in unison: “Like, snakeskin.” Does Jonigkeit have a similar garment (if you can top snakeskin-printed jeans) with a lot of personality? “I’m so boring,” he said. But with perfect comic timing, Mamet leaped into his arms and answered, “Me! He has me!”

If you saw any Alexander Hamiltons bewigged this Halloween, it isn’t because founding fathers are so hot right now. It’s thanks to Lin-Manuel Miranda, whose history-packed rap musical, Hamilton, has taken the world far beyond Broadway by storm. Even fans who live across the country with no plans to travel to New York, or who could only get tickets in February, are obsessing over every single lyric in the soundtrack and then tweeting their love for #Hamiltunes. High-brow music writers have tackled the rap and musical-theater references, and superfans have collaborated notes for every song on Genius. But today?finally!?Miranda himself has released the fully annotated lyrics on Genius, admitting where he took some historical poetic license (the Schuyler sisters did have a brother, but Miranda just forgot), and the rap-world parallels (George Washington is to Alexander Hamilton what Dr. Dre is to Eminem).
“I use Genius as much as the next hip-hop head,” said Miranda. “I’m a fan of the ethos behind it. The greatest hip-hop packs in so much information, allowing the listener to dig into layer upon layer of meaning.” He wrote the play after reading a biography of Hamilton that begins with a hurricane that tore through St. Croix (Hamilton was born in the West Indies). Hamilton wrote poetry about the storm that was recognized by patrons who funded his education. “After that, I decided I had to write this play,” writes Miranda. “Hamilton literally wrote a verse to get him off an island?that’s the most hip ?hop shit ever. He transcends the struggle, and if you look at your favorite rapper, that’s most likely what they did.”
Related: Hamilton’s Leslie Odom Jr,cheap jordans. at the Scene of the Historic Duel
The annotations are as scholarly as they are personal?be prepared to get no work done today. You’ll be sucked in from the notes on one of the first lines:
[Burr: “How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore, and a
Scotsman/dropped in the middle of a forgotten spot in the Caribbean by
providence/Impoverished, in squalor/Grow up to be a hero and a
scholar. ”]
With this being the first line of the show, I wanted to outline the
improbability of this situation. This is the story of hip-?hop. It’s
Tupac’s image of the rose that grew out of some concrete. It’s Richard
Pryor growing up in a brothel, to being one of the greatest comedic
geniuses of our time. Real genius, like Hamiltonian genius, will
survive its circumstances. This type of genius is simply undeniable.
And it’s an immigrant story, too, real cheap jordans retro, which reminded me of my father,yourcellan.com, who
came here at 18 from Puerto Rico, not speaking a word of English and
selling newspapers.
And then all of the Easter eggs, like the reason this LL Cool J reference was dropped:
“Say No To This” used to start with: “When I’m alone in my room,
sometimes I stare at the wall,” which is an LL Cool J reference. That
reference is like 30 years old, so even non-hip-?hop heads would get
it. However, I felt like it was the wrong laugh leading into the
scene. That’s a moment where we see Hamilton leave his family, cheap jordan shoes, and
this new woman just comes out of nowhere. I don’t want people laughing
at the top of that song . . . I wanted them to be like, “Who is
this?!” I want the audience at this point screaming in their heads
“No!” along with the actors on stage. So I took the LL Cool J part out
for dramaturgical reasons.
Why the play needed the “Ten Duel Commandments”:
The audience needs to understand what dueling was like back then. This
was not drive-bys. This was not heated people taking their guns out
outside of bars. This is not what happens today with our fakakta
gun-control issues. This wasn’t beef in the same way beef is today. It
was super codified? there was a ritual about it. It was like legal
arbitration . . . with guns. So, I came up with the idea of doing 10
duel commandments because “Ten Crack Commandments” is a how?-to guide
for illegal activity in the 90s. And this is a how?-to guide for
illegal activities in the 1790s.
And fun little asides, like this one:
[Hercules Mulligan: “lock up your daughters and horses of course/it’s hard to have
intercourse over four sets of corsets . ,cheap jordans free shipping. .”]
Historically, he definitely does not fuck horses. However, I thought
this was a pretty funny line. I always think of the line in the Three
Amigos where Chevy Chase is with all these Mexican gang members and
goes: “And we’ll rape the horses.” It probably came from Three
Amigos in my brain . . .
Miranda on the play’s historical inaccuracies:

Donald Trump, the Republican Party’s nominee for president, has of late become fixated on Hillary Clinton’s lack of a certain something?an undefined je ne sais quoi?that makes her appear less than presidential. “Does she look presidential, fellas? Are we serious?” The billionaire’s inscrutable issues with Clinton are more than just cosmetic, however. On Tuesday, Trump went a step further in defining what “look” might befit a president, limiting the criteria to people who don’t cough. After Clinton suffered an extensive coughing fit in Cleveland on Monday (“Every time I think about Trump I get allergic,” she joked), Trump accused the media of ignoring questions about her health. “Mainstream media never covered Hillary’s massive ‘hacking’ or coughing attack, yet it is #1 trending,” he tweeted. “What’s up?” Franklin

It was an image as jarring as it was unexpected: Donald Trump and Barack Obama sitting side by side in the White House on Thursday, as the former Apprentice star and real-estate developer prepares to take control of the presidency from the man he spent years trying to delegitimize as a foreign-born interloper. After speaking privately for a scheduled 15-minute meeting that ultimately stretched to an hour and a half, the two delivered a surprisingly conciliatory statement from the Oval Office to the gathered press.
“Well, I just had the opportunity to have an excellent conversation with President-elect Trump,” Obama said, reiterating his promise to facilitate a peaceful transition of power from his administration to a Trump administration. The president said that he was “very encouraged” by their conversation, which remained private.
“I believe that it is important for all of us, regardless of party, cheap jordans free shipping, and regardless of political preferences, to now come together, work together, cheap real jordans, to deal with the many challenges that we face,” Obama continued. “Most of all, I want to emphasize to you, Mr. President-elect, that we now are going to want to do everything we can to help you succeed—because if you succeed, then the country succeeds.”
Trump, who flew into Washington Thursday morning accompanied by his wife and his small entourage of trusted advisers, cheap jordans online, was uncharacteristically subdued as he sat across from the president, whom he had never met. “I have great respect, cheap jordans,” he said, sitting in a chair often occupied by visiting heads of state. The two had a wonderful meeting about the future, Trump said—“As far as Im concerned, it could have gone on for a lot longer”—adding Obama is a “good man” and that he looks forward to continuing to receive his “counsel.”
Elsewhere, Melania Trump met with Michelle Obama to privately discuss the office of First Lady; Joe Biden was scheduled to meet with Vice President-elect Mike Pence; and Jared Kushner was spotted strolling around the White House grounds with White House chief of staff Denis McDonough, fueling speculation about what role he might play in his father-in-law’s administration.
Trump was also scheduled to sit down with House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, two men he once vowed to punish for their lack of loyalty during the general election. The Republican leaders had quietly encouraged vulnerable Republican congressional candidates to distance themselves from Trump, if necessary, in order to win election. Both have since offered praise for Trump upon winning the presidency, and released statements promising to work together to expeditiously pass a sweeping conservative budget.
The meeting between Trump and Obama marks a notable change in tone for the president-elect, who months earlier had accused the president of founding ISIS, and who has routinely called on federal prosecutors to jail Hillary Clinton. (The president-elect thanked his opponent for a hard-fought campaign in a similarly placatory victory speech Tuesday night.) In private of course, the Obama White House is reportedly seething at the prospect that Trump may undo much of their accomplishments over the past eight years. Obama and his aides are reportedly scrambling to nail down everything they can, containing what is expected to be a massive and immediate series of legislative and regulatory setbacks for Democrats as soon as Trump takes control.
While Obama gritted his teeth Thursday, hints of the roiling anger within his administration bubbled to the surface. An expected photo op, traditionally held between the incoming and outgoing First Couples, was cancelled. No explanation was given, and neither Obama nor Trump answered questions from the press. “This is a good rule: don’t answer the questions when they just start yelling at you,” Obama advised his successor as they sat in the Oval Office. To which Trump reportedly responded, “It’s always the last one.”

Its balmy summer, Chicago 1989, in the romance Southside With You, as two young lawyers from the same firm—she a second year associate, cheap jordans online, he just there for the summer—spend a day together, talking, flirting, and, its plain to see, beginning to fall in love. Weve seen films like this before (Before Sunset comes immediately to mind), but what makes Southside With You, which premiered here at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, distinctive is that the girls name is Michelle Robinson and the boys is Barack Obama. Writer-director Richard Tanne has taken on the hefty task of re-staging the storied first date of the future president and First Lady, Do the Right Thing and all, which he approaches with a careful mix of sweetness and humor.
Tanne had the good smarts to cast newcomer Parker Sawyers to play young Barack, a difficult job that Sawyers proves wholly adept at handling. He doesnt do an impersonation, but he does nail certain familiar cadences, especially in a centerpiece speech at a community meeting, cheap real jordans, when Michelle first gets a glimpse of Baracks preternatural rhetorical abilities. Sawyers knows when to play cocky, cheap jordans for sale, when to be a little goofy, and, most crucially, when to turn on the sex appeal. Its easy to understand why Michelle, who is initially resistant to the idea that this is a date, is ultimately powerless to resist.
But we already knew about Barack Obamas uncanny charisma. What Southside With Yous premise more tantalizingly offers is a chance to get to know Michelle, to see her intellect and ambition before her identity is forever tethered to Baracks. Its unfortunate, then, that Tanne has written her so stiltedly, a problem that carries over into Tika Sumpters performance, which finds some piquant moments but hits too many awkward notes to hold its own against Sawyerss fluid ease. We dont really learn much about Michelle Robinson; ultimately she exists in the film as simply yet another person captivated by Barack Obamas famous magnetism.
So, as biography, Southside With You is lacking. But simply as a romance, the film works nicely. Tanne paces his film gently, a series of getting-to-know-you vignettes that amount to basically the best (sex-free) first date ever. Captured by Patrick Scolas gauzy cinematography and scored by Stephen James Taylors dreamy compositions, this budding love affair is rendered gracefully, with little schmaltz. In some ways, I wish Tanne had just made a straightforward romance with this creative team, rather than a story thats slightly hampered by its historical hook. But, then we probably wouldnt get the engaging community meeting scene, which would be a loss. As is, Southside With You is airy and pleasant, a modest film that gets by on charm and aesthetics. hiring good artists,www.yourcellan.com,” Ivory says matter-of-factly. It helped that by the time their reputation began to spread, actors were often willing to work for less than their usual ask: “They liked the script, they liked the part, they liked us. And we had ways of getting around agents.” He still gets annoyed, though,yourcellan.com, at the celebrity gatekeeper who prevented Mick Jagger from hearing his and Merchant’s offer for 1969’s The Guru. The role eventually went to Michael York, but “years and years later we had dinner at Cannes and he said he never got the script. . . . It would have been good for the movie.” Willem Dafoe was another actor surprised (and annoyed) that his “people” prevented him from knowing about their interest, Ivory says. From Sony Pictures Classics/Photofest. Of course, not every actor wanted to work with this strange, independent team of erudite filmmakers making (mostly) literary adaptations. “We wanted Bette Davis for Roseland, cheap real jordans,” he says of their nostalgia-drenched 1977 anthology film that featured Christopher Walken and Geraldine Chaplin. “Ismail called her but I was on the other line. It was like listening to F.D.R. Her voice was so . . . familiar.” Most actors and actresses certainly jumped at the chance to collaborate with them, and Ivory brightens when I start listing the names of stars he’s worked with, especially those whose careers he helped launch. “Daniel Day-Lewis interviewed for [the stuffy, pretentious] Cecil from A Room with a View with his pink hair from My Beautiful Laundrette. Those two movies came out the very same day in New York. But as soon as he put on his collar and pince-nez, I knew this was . . .” Ivory then rolls his eyes in a “to die for” fashion that most people who understand good acting make when they discuss Daniel Day-Lewis. He also calls Lincoln his favorite Day-Lewis performance. “Helena Bonham Carter was 19 when we made A Room with a View. She came for the interview in these extraordinary boots and a black dress, and sat with her

A six-hour interview with Warren Beatty “Of course, Mr. Beatty himself carefully curates what information he lets become public. During our interview, he was exacting about what was on the record and off, and he keeps a few stories in rotation. Several anecdotes that he meted out to me ? his meeting Marilyn Monroe at Peter Lawford’s, how he calls his children four Eastern European countries, jordans for cheap, his discovery decades ago that Hughes rented a slew of suites and bungalows at the Beverly Hilton ? ended up in his November profile in Vanity Fair.” (The New York Times) The morning babble “Fox & Friends” offered chyrons on steroids, cheap jordans, perhaps job-sharing with the Murdoch-owned New York Post copy desk: “They’ve got mail: Laptop used by Weiner, Abedin had 650K emails”...“Final Huma-iliation”...“Huma in hot water”...“Communication breakdown”...“E-nailed” CNNs “New Day” pundit David Gregory pooh-poohed the substantive significance of it all and noted FBI Director Comeys independence and that the Clinton camp had decided to go after him because they are convinced theres no mishandling of classified data. On MSNBCs “Morning Joe” Mika Brzezinski called the controversy “a self-inflicted, massive wound. Democrats nominated someone who is under an FBI investigation for having a private server, among other things.” Scarborough alluded to lots of purportedly erroneous pro-Clinton information spun this weekend, saying he is “stunned” by the purportedly poor reporting but offering none of his shows independent, accurate own reporting. the coming decades. Some female-dominated roles such as administrative staff or personal secretary may disappear, but then so too may heavily male roles such as machinery operator and some kinds of labourers. What we can see, though, cheap jordans for sale, is that on current trends automation is likely to embed the inequality that comes from having a gender-segregated workforce. Australia??s gender pay gap in May of this year is a little over 16% (which by the way is basically the same that it was back in May 1995). We know that a large part of this gap comes from female professions being paid less than male equivalents. Automation won??t change that. In this new, digitised world, human skills such as empathy, creativity, or even complicated manual manipulation have special value. But the risks and opportunities in the new economy may well be distributed between men and women in old, gendered patterns. We are likely to see growing demand for people in the care sector. These jobs, such as nurses or aged care workers, are now largely performed by women and are largely underpaid. At the same time we will also likely see growth in high-paid roles in engineering, science and technology ?C areas where women are traditionally underrepresented. Technology isn??t going to erase that gap. If current trends continue we won??t have a pipeline of young women ready and able to take advantage of Stem opportunities. We can hope that automation may force us to rethink the value of caring roles and pay our teachers, nurses and childcare workers more. To achieve that we don??t just need to advance our tech ?C we need to advance our thinking. It??s not just about how we work. As machines take over work, cheap air jordan shoes, a greater share of profits will flow to those who own things rather than those who do things. Take Uber, for example. At the moment the value produced by Uber is split between the company that owns the app and the drivers who do the work. Anybody who wanted an intelligence-community assessment on any of this stuff would’ve come through me, and I got no requests at all. As to why this was the case, I would give two general answers. Number one was just extreme hubris and self-confidence. If you truly believe in the power of free economics and free politics, and their attractiveness to all populations of the world, and their ability to sweep away all manner of ills, then you tend not to worry about these things so much. The other major reason is that, given the difficulty of mustering public support for something as extreme as an offensive war, any serious discussion inside the government about the messy consequences, cheap jordan shoes, the things that could go wrong, would complicate even further the job of selling the war. On Tuesday night, former president Bill Clinton delivered an endearing and emotional tribute to his wife at the Democratic National Convention that reminded us of something we do,yourcellan.com, in fact, need to be reminded of at times: Hillary Clinton is human. Bill’s address—which included a story about seeing Hillary for the first time at Yale,www.yourcellan.com, how she caught his eye and how he courted her—was met with raucous applause. But the prime-time speech also brought to mind something else, as well: the former commander-in-chief’s potential to stumble over the thin line between being an asset and becoming a liability. While the story was a classic meet-cute tale of a young couple falling in love, it also called to mind the sexual scandals plaguing the politician’s past.
That Bill Clinton is always one step away from crossing the line—as he has in the past when confronting Black Lives Matter protestors or defending past policies, like his 1994 crime bill or NAFTA, which are now unpopular—must be at the forefront of Hillary’s mind as her campaign team works to determine his role in the general election battle against Donald Trump. With four months to go until voters go to the polls, one question remains unanswered: What will Bill Clinton do? If Hillary makes it all the way to the Oval Office, cheap jordans online, the Clintons will have to traverse uncharted territory as Bill tries to strike a balance between leveraging his presidential expertise to Hillary’s benefit without overshadowing her. While several reports in recent days have started to bring the former president’s hypothetical White House duties into focus, one thing is crystal clear: an idle Bill spells trouble.
It’s not clear how Bill Clinton would function as America’s first First Gentleman. Advisers to Hillary Clinton told The New York Times that the presidential candidate has not yet decided if she will offer her husband a formal role if elected but leveled that he will cease working for the Clinton Foundation, won’t be a regular at Cabinet meetings, and will do what is asked of him. Beyond that, however, cheap retro jordans, details are scant. Citing friends close to the former president, the Times reports that a narrow but responsibility-laden post (such as heading up the fight against H.I.V./AIDS or global warming) would be a solid fit for the former commander in chief. A peace envoy to the Middle East is another idea floated in the Times report, but aides dismissed the idea, saying it wasn’t a role Bill previously expressed interest in. But whatever capacity he ends up in, it will be crucial Bill doesn’t butt heads with high-profile officials in his wife’s theoretical administration, cheap real jordans, while still putting his diplomatic skills and relationships to good use.
While the political power couple irons out these particulars, Bill has a new task to complete in the meantime. He will reportedly focus on attracting white male voters—a demographic the former secretary of state has struggled to gain traction with—to the Clinton campaign. Politico reports that the seasoned politician will launch his effort in Florida, a key swing state in upcoming election, where he will try to boost Hillary’s odds by appealing to the population that secured him the presidency—twice. “We can use President Clinton with any audience that is part of our base or the swing universe that we are reaching for” Joel Benenson, Hillary’s senior strategist, told Politico. “He obviously has value with white working-class and middle-class voters, especially older ones who remember his presidency fondly.”
The strategy is rooted in the belief that Bill alone has the best chance at discrediting Trump among the crucial, white working-class and middle-class voters who have largely spurned his wife’s campaign. “He can inform people that Trump is blowing hot air into these issues—that his ties are made in China, his suits are made in Mexico, his picture frames are made in Turkey,” Tim Ryan, a representative from Ohio, told Politico.
Still, the electoral map has shifted considerably since the 1990s, and Bill Clinton is by no means immune to political blunders. The popular former president is definitely a gamble, but a gamble the Clinton campaign increasingly seems ready to take.
